Beloit Peoples Church’s food pantry is a free public ministry to the community providing food for needy families in the area.  We are connected with the Second  Harvest food bank which sells us food for pennies on the dollar.  Between 50 to 80 families are currently receiving food on a weekly basis.  The food that is available are bread, produce, canned vegetables, frozen meat and dairy products such as yogurt and cheese.  In addition, we offer a Bible study/prayer group for people who are coming to the pantry.

How the Pantry works

Food pantry shelves ready to be used.

People who are interested in receiving food, need to fill out a form which  lists the items they would like to get.  It also lets you note any food allergies you may have so the  food you receive is food you can eat.  Once you have filled out the form, it is placed on file and the following week you can pick up the food you listed on the form.

Peoples church takes the forms that show the needs and places a bulk order with Second Harvest.  They work with grocery stores, Restaurants and other providers to pick up food they can’t use and they process these items for shipment to places like Peoples Church.  On Monday mornings, a semi trailer of food arrives at the church and volunteers from Peoples Church unload the food and store it for the next day  when the families arrive to pick up the food.  Peoples Church received a grant for a new Refrigerator and a new freezer unit which allows them to store food safely for their customers.

On Tuesdays from 10am to 11am, people can pick up their food orders.  Although there are no guarantees, everyone usually gets most of what they ordered.  The brands may  change but the food matches their needs.

How you can become involved

We need volunteers to come on Mondays at 8:30am to help unload the truck from Second Harvest.  We also can use help on Tuesdays at 8:30 to pick the food orders.
